These men recognized the advantages of belonging to a special fraternity that would enhance and support professional careers and social relationships while simultaneously providing leadership and assistance to facilitate the enhancement and elevation of such underserved black communities as those from which they mostly came and in which they professionally existed. Its founders were six exceptional men, four medical doctors, one dentist and one pharmacist, who at that time was a second-year medical school student. On a national level, Cal Sigma has been working to be one of the best SigEp chapters, recognized with the Donald C. Over the past seventeen years, the chapter has grown from a fledgling house into a viable force in the Greek system. The chapter was founded by16 members of the CSUN swim team. Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded on the cardinal principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love, and this tradition of brotherly excellence dwells in the core of every chapter and in the heart of every SigEp.Ĭalifornia State University Northridge’s California Sigma Chapter (Cal Sigma) was chartered on January 13, 1990. The founding fathers saw the flaws of the existing fraternities and focused on ways to design a better fraternity model. From its very origins, SigEp was to be something unique. After rejecting the other already established on-campus fraternities, the founding father turned elsewhere and created Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. The young Carter Ashton Jenkins, along with the help of the other eleven founding fathers, sought to establish a fraternity based on Judeo/Christian ideals, and an organization in which true brotherhood could flourish. In 1901, a group of twelve men came together to create an organization of fraternity unlike any other. ![]()
